Well I was finally ready to announce the opening of my new art gallery, but wouldn't you know it…

Now I'm not saying she had anything to do with it, but we were able to capture some footage from the security cameras..

Apples & Oranges

A few days ago the cord for my MacBook Pro started to separate a bit where it connected to the MagSafe head. By separation, I'm referring to the wire sheath pulling away from a little cap it has attached to the MagSafe connector head. I've been trying to keep it from separating completely and have been very gentle with it since it started. Today, as I was talking to Tateru, I noticed that it had popped completely out of the cap. I went to grab it and it was hot. In fact, the wire for about 3 inches was hot. I pulled it from the computer, and the little head nearly burned my fingers. I looked closer and saw that the wire sheath now had a burn hole in it. Yay for me!

I called Apple, who first let me know that they couldn't talk to me because I was out of my 90 day phone support, but was then kind enough to ask what the problem was. When I explained that the wire casing was melting, he was much more friendly and suggested that I go to the local Apple store for a replacement, because it was covered under my warranty. Thankfully there was still an appointment slot open for tonight. The last appointment slot before the closed, in fact. And since that appointment was 45 minutes away, I had just enough time to get there. Because, as it turns out, I live about 45 minutes away.

After arriving, they took at look at the connector and warned me that because it was separated from the little end-cap, that they typically don't cover that under the warranty. Forget that I'm the most gentle person as it comes to my little baby computer. I offered that perhaps the problem was a design issue and not a "Mera ripping it out of the computer with the power of the gods" issue. He asked his manager, who took one look at the melty goodness and said "yeah, go ahead."

So here I am two MacBook Pro issues later, both resolved under warranty. Now, I must say, I've never had even two issues with previous PC computers. Apple, you do make a superior product and I've determined, quite astonishingly, that I can live without a PC. I've even gone so far as to relegate the PC to file server status. But I am having a bit of a harder time recommending your hardware when these stupid little issues come up. I do appreciate being able to drive up to the Apple store and get a new power supply. That kept me from any down time, but what else will happen when, say, the computer is 12 months old, versus six? My confidence level is not high right now.

I will say, however, that OS X is the sweetest OS ever made. So far there's not a single bit of hardware that it doesn't immediatly recognize and hook up to. Basically, this computer works the way you *think* computer ought to work. Plug something in and go. In fact just today I used this computer at work to read a CD that no PC in the office was capable of reading. Apple saves the day.

Steve! Keep up the coolness, but work on the reliability, will ya?

Ordinal has rebuilt her shop.  I liked the old one, but this one is super cool.  Go have a look.

You may have noticed my blog topics kind of flying all over the map here lately. I'm still trying to decide what I want this to be. It had become a delve into the psyche of Mera, but I think I'm close to coming to terms with that. I'm not much for the day-to-day goings on in the life of Mera, so continuing with the Mera biolog thing probably won't continue. What I think I'd prefer is to write more in the way of interesting events, education, and the occasional frivolity. Ok, maybe the frivolity will be more frequent than the rest, but you get the idea. Perhaps I can make this site a bit less boring after all.

That being said, I've nothing to report.

Yarr. And do ye know what today be?

Oddly enough, or maybe not so oddly, the original intent of my last post never actually made it into that post.  I'll blame early morning Monday depression.  I'll blame it and you'll like it!

Anyway, what I meant to get at is that I've said to many people that I want to help.  And I really do want to help.  I also know that my distracted nature can be seen as 1) Not really wanting to be involved, 2) Wanting to be involved, but way too busy to help, or 3) Flighty and not worthy of helping out anyway.

All I can say is that number one is not true.  If I've volunteered to do something, I really do want to do it.  Numbers 2 and 3 are more accurate.  I'm not all that busy, though, but it seems like it at times.  I think the perception of my busyness far outweighs my actual busyness.  I do allow myself to be distracted far too easily.  And as I'm sure we all know, time progresses in world much differently than out.  I can sit there and work on a single texture or picture for four hours and not even realize it.  I look up and it's 2am and I've not accomplished anything.

This, however, is my open call to anyone out there that I may have volunteered to assist.  Just IM me and tell me to come over and help.  I just need a reminder and something to push me on track.

I haven't forgotten about your project, I promise.  I don't mean to act like I don't care.  I just am way too easily distracted.  Unfortunately I feel that I'm being passed up on opportunities due to my lack of focus.  Maybe it's true I should give a few things up.

I think it's more true that I just need more cowbell.

I feel I need to write something just to move the last postings down a bit.  I'm not entirely sure what to write about, though.  I've not worked a lot on BanLink in a few weeks.  I didn't mean to stop work on it, time just kind of flew by quickly.  As most that know me will attest, I tend to jump into a lot, maybe even too much.  I can't help it, if I'm not doing something in SL, then I'm feel guilty.  Lately I've taken a little break from "working" in SL and given some socialization a try.  It's been nice, I'll admit.

I'm trying to read the old Second Life Insider. I pop over there occasionally to see what's happening. I like Akela, he writes very well, but the SLI site, much like NWN, is ad central. Nothing wrong with ads. I'm all for making a buck. Once google thinks I'm worthy, you'll have to maneuver the ad minefield to make your way onto my site. But today things seem a little different. Did you know that today was Sexy Underwear Day? Well you do now, because I learned from a pair of panties on SLI that keep harassing me, so I'm passing the love.

Speaking of underthings, the last two Victoria's Secret spam emails that I've received has something similar in them:

Purple!

Have I filled my blog with enough shallowness yet? I think I'm starting to get a little queasy.

[edit]

I did my part in celebration of such a special day.  Building in underclothes sure is easier.  Much more flexible without all that constriction.

Feed Me!

posted by Mera
Friday September 15, 2006

I've been searching for just this very thing for weeks now:  http://www.netvibes.com/

I've told a few of you already, but I cannot read *anything* from blogspot while I'm at work.  The office firewall blocks blog sites.  They freaking block Google Groups!  (Note to self: bitch *more* about that)  I'm forced to dial up via my cell phone to poke around for work research, which sucks, but even via dial-up, I cannot read blogspot sites.  I really want to know what they're doing.  It's not blocked, firewall-wise.  I get the title of the site come through, and I can hit the XML directly, but *something* that blogspot is doing before sending it on is preventing it from loading via dial-up.  *sigh*

So I've been looking for a feed reader that would allow me to read the sites that I like, whenever I like.  *And* I've been looking for something to tell me when a site has been updated.  Netvibes allows me, via a nice AJAX interface, mind you, to add feeds, arrange them on the page, it lets me know when there are new postings, and it allows me to read it *on their site* instead of sending me off to the host, where I once again CANNOT READ IT.  (Sorry about that last part, other feed readers don't seem to understand the "read" part).
Anyway, maybe you all knew about this site already.  Not the first time I've been left out of the know.  Yeah, it's all a conspiracy.  A C-O-N…spiracy.
